What is Hypnobirthing and how can it help me?

Hypnobirthing essentially means the use of hypnosis and birth, but our hypnobirthing course is so much more!

I am so excited to share the magic of hypnobirthing with you! As a midwife and childbirth educator I have been working with families for the past decade, and have taught hypnobirthing to over 750 women and birth partners.

I created this course because I am passionate about families feeling confident and informed during their birth. Birth doesn’t have to be scary! It is the day that your baby is born – it should be a positive experience that you can look back on with happiness. Unfortunately for many women this is not the case – birth trauma is on the rise, and this is something I hope to change with this course.

In 2022 I welcomed my first baby and got to put the techniques into practice myself. I had an incredible birth which truly was the best day of my life. My labour was quick, free of medical intervention or drugs, and I birthed my big 5kg baby completely naturally. Hypnobirthing played a huge role in the arrival of our baby boy and achieving the birth that we had dreamed of. This made me even more excited to continue sharing hypnobirthing with families as I now know firsthand the impact it can have. If you'd like to read more you can check out our full Birth Story here

This course will provide you with techniques that you can use through pregnancy, birth and beyond, but it will also provide you with the information to understand your options so you can make informed decisions. I always say that it is hard to stay calm in labour when you don’t know what to expect, what your body is doing or the ways in which you can support your body to labour more effectively.

This course is not just the hypnobirthing techniques – it combines research, evidence based information and all of my little tricks that I have used as a midwife caring for women in labour.

A course with Hannah is perfect for you if...

  • You want to have a natural, low-intervention birth but don't really know how you're going to achieve this.

  • You are worried about the pain and how you will manage.

  • You've been struggling with fear and anxiety about birth, and you don't know how to manage these feelings.

  • You want more from your Antenatal Classes than just the standard hospital program, which frankly is often more an an 'orientation to their policies and procedures' than actual preparation for managing labour and birth.

  • You want to learn hypnosis relaxation techniques for birth, but also want to have lots of other tools and techniques that you can use.

  • You want your birth partner to feel included, and for them to know how to best support you during your labour and birth.

Why hypnosis? Isn't that a bit weird?!

The hypnosis that we use is all self-hypnosis, so not at all scary! There are no swinging watches here - hypnosis is just a state of mind where we are very relaxed and focussed, which is exactly the state that we want to be in for our birth. The techniques that I teach will help you to easily get into this relaxed state of mind. No prior meditation/hypnotherapy experience is required.

When is the best time to attend Hypnobirthing classes?

The ideal time is between 22 and 32 weeks of pregnancy. This allows you to have enough time to practice the techniques, but also means that the course is still fresh in your mind. However it's never to late!

Should my partner attend?

Bring yourself and your partner/birth support. My courses very much involve the partner so that they feel confident with what they can do during labour, and their support can be a very important part of your birth experience. Your birth partner may be your partner, friend, sister, mother or anyone who you feel will best support you during your pregnancy and birth. You are also most welcome to attend classes solo if you prefer.

What if I am planning a Caesarean birth? Can I still use hypnobirthing?

Absolutely! Hypnobirthing can absolutely be used with a Caesarean birth. Please contact Hannah for more information.
